Position Overview
The Development & Communications Manager serves as Mercado Global's lead grant and development communications writer and manager. The position reports into and works closely with the organization's Development Director. This role is responsible for helping meet annual fundraising benchmarks via grants, donor appeals, and institutional partner gifts, as well as providing managerial support around small events and other development operations that cultivate and steward the organization's donors. The Development & Communications Manager will lead relationships with an array of institutional partners, partnering with the organization's program team to secure content for donor reports and grant proposals.
Mercado Global seeks a Development & Communications Manager who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help expand a cutting-edge model for fighting poverty and empowering women in rural Latin America. He/she should have strong self-initiative and leadership capabilities, strong interpersonal and communication skills, good attention to detail, experience in grant writing and project or events management, and a passion for our mission and work.
This position is preferably based at our field office in Panajachel, Guatemala but applications to work remotely will be considered, and reports directly to the Development Director.
Key Responsibilities
The Development & Communications Manager role is responsible for meeting fundraising benchmarks through the following activities:
Grant Writing & Institutional Donors Management
● Maintain pipeline of foundation prospects that align with Mercado Global's mission
● Develop and submit grant proposals and maintain institutional fundraising application and reporting calendar
● Track grant activity progress internally and prepare narrative and financial reports and other engagement tools for current funders
● Identify and organize Mercado Global presence at industry networking events and conferences
● In partnership with Development Director, manage engagement and relationship with institutional donors
Development Communications
● Manage development department communications calendar
● Draft all development team social media and email communications
● Develop annual donor appeals, including the end of fiscal year appeal and annual appeal
● Draft donor reports, including seasonal and annual reports
● Collaborate with organizations Marketing Manager and Graphic Designer on implementation of communications calendar, social media and marketing tools
Development Outreach
● Manage implementation of appeals & other fundraising campaigns
● Manage outreach & onboarding for Insight Trips
● Support gala outreach and logistics as needed and time allows
● Help host donors on site visits to Guatemala as needed
Development Operations Management
● Oversee implementation of logistics by Development Associate on donor trips and visits to our operations in Guatemala
● Oversee Development Associate's implementation of mailed communications and maintenance of salesforce, closed reports, and other development operations tools
Key Qualifications
● A bachelor's degree
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
● Excellent planning, critical thinking and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously
● Two to five years experience and demonstrated success in grant writing and relationship management
● Two to three years experience and demonstrated success in project, logistics and/or events management
● Some managerial experience preferred
● Ability to work in a team setting and communicate effectively. Ability to receive and incorporate feedback
● Strong attention to detail and commitment to top-quality, self-driven work
● Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish strongly preferred
● Enthusiasm for Mercado Global's mission
● Flexibility, drive, sense of humor, and prior experience living long-term outside the U.S.
● Fluency with Microsoft Office and Excel required. Knowledge of Salesforce a plus

Position Overview
Reporting to and working predominantly with the Graphic Designer and Site Manager, the Graphic Design Intern will support the development of sales and marketing material for key accounts such as Levi's, Free People, and Stitch Fix. The intern will support in improvement to the ecommerce and website.
The Graphic Design Intern will also assist in the development of fundraising and press material, as well as contribute ideas/design brand-specific content to develop social media strategies across the organization.
This internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience in the fashion world while also directly helping artisans in Guatemala develop income opportunities. This position involves collaborative work with our experienced production and design team, our Guatemala and U.S.-based staff, and the talented women artisans we serve in Guatemala.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Graphic Designer and Site Manager in maintaining brand aesthetic through design and graphics

Position Overview
The Google Analytics and Ads Grant Internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and gain experience in the ecommerce and fashion world while giving back. Help us expand our impact while preparing yourself for your future career.
The Intern will report to Mercado Global’s Graphic Designer and Site Manager. The internship will be focused on supporting the organization's transition to the new Google Analytics 4 (GA4) platform and setting-up best practices for the account on Google Ads Grants. The intern will support tracking the analytics and promoting conversions for ecommerce, fundraising, corporate networking, and boutique wholesale. The Intern will also assist in other marketing initiatives such as creating newsletters, website support, and social media campaigns. Through your work at Mercado Global, you will be exposed to brands like Levi's and Reformation, and retailers like Nordstrom and Holt Renfrew, amongst others. Your work will expand our current portfolio, including among our boutique partners.

Position Overview
Reporting to and working closely with the Development Associate, the Photography Intern supports content creation through storytelling, photography and filmmaking.
Key Responsibilities
- Creating audiovisual content for social media and website, aligning to Mercado Global’s message

- Conduct interviews with artisans and office team members and make transcripts.
- Support product photography when necessary.
- Work with marketing team to support social media strategy

Position Overview
Reporting to the Development Manager, the Social Impact Assessment Intern will help Mercado Global reach its goal of conducting a more extensive social impact assessment in our partner communities. This role is responsible for providing updated stats to the development team. This candidate is enthusiastic about the opportunity to help expand a cutting-edge model for fighting poverty and empowering women in rural Latin America. They should have strong self-initiative, interpersonal and communication skills, past experience in conducting surveys, attention to detail, excitement for learning the ins and outs of development and a passion for our mission and work.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct assessment testing with partner artisans
- Document and communicate your analyses and results to the MG Development team
- Conduct research using a range of methods (interviews, surveys, etc.)
- Monitor interviews being conducted at partner artisan communities
- Participate in the development of survey questionnaires
- Train surveyors on how to implement surveys at communities
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
Key Qualifications
- Currently pursuing OR recently completed a Master’s degree in educational research, assessment, statistics, psychology, sociology, political science, business, economics or a related field
