Product Development Coordinator

Classification: Full‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview

Mercado Global seeks a Product Development Coordinator to lead sourcing, costing and sampling management from its Guatemala office. The Product Development Manager facilitates strategic workflow between design team, production team, and artisan co-operatives. Qualified candidates have professional proficiency in Spanish and English, as well as excellent skills in project management, communication, proactive strategizing, and organization. This is a full-time role with a two-year minimum commitment.

Role and Responsibilities

- Maintain and evaluate the collection R&D calendar from concept through final samples, including tracking samples and facilitating cross-team communication
- Manage requests, timeline, and sampling for private label and exclusive product.
- Facilitate workflow with Design Team, Production Team, and Artisan Co-ops, including weekly meeting and weekly WIP report.
- Project manage quality control process and implementation, taking initiative to work with advisors on specific research needs.
- Maintain trim libraries – both physical and digital.
- Price new fabrics and detailing during development.
- Own fabric and style costing, including identification of strategy and trainings needed to improve margin.
 

Qualifications and Skills

- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years experience in product development and/or project management, with specific experience in textiles or soft goods
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Superior communication skills, including written, listening and verbal. Ability to effectively address external partners as well as all levels within the organization
- Strong initiative, interest in creating organizational systems, attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as an active team player
- Successful in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
- Pro-active and strategic problem solving
- Weaving knowledge and experience working with artisans is a plus.
- Basic sewing and patternmaking knowledge

FELLOWSHIPS
Senior Community Development Fellowship

Classification: Full‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
Mercado Global is seeking a 6 to 12 month fellow to support the build of our Community Based Education Program. The fellow will work with our Guatemala Programs Director to implement an improved monitoring & evaluation system, improve core curriculum, and update planning, program content, and program management. The senior fellow will also help manage and build our Programs Advisory Board and supervise fellows supporting curriculum development. The Senior Fellow will help establish and manage strategic partnerships with other organizations and institutions operating in Guatemala. We are seeking Spanish speaking applicants with a background and training in designing,running and evaluating programs in rural communities. Please note this position is located in our office in Panajachel, Guatemala and requires a 6 to 12-month commitment. This is a paid fellowship.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Improve current curriculum and help develop top priority new curriculum (curricula is written in Spanish)
- Improve monitoring and evaluation process for programs and curriculum
- Assist in implementing and managing new database housing all program and tracking information
- Identify and assess potential local NGO & INGO partners
- Assist with evaluation development and implementation in areas such as nutrition, women's health (family planning, cervical cancer, stress), hygiene, women's empowerment, and leadership.

Key Requirements
- Proficiency in Spanish, verbal and written, is required
- Experience developing and conducting trainings in rural communities
- Experience program and staff management experience
- Strong organizational, strategic and analytical abilities
- Preferred knowledge or interest in at least one of the following issue areas: market access, rural business development, financial literacy, and health & nutrition
- Undergraduate degree required, relevant graduate degree a plus
- Experience in database management
- Full-time commitment required

Community Development Fellowship

Classification: Full‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
Mercado Global provides capacity-building workshops for our partner artisans in various program areas. The purpose of this fellowship is to further develop and finalize the community-based education curricula that are utilized in these workshops. The fellow will work with the Community-Based Education Program Director and trainers to strengthen our existing curricula, identify areas where new curricula is needed, and to develop these new curricula in areas such as nutrition, women's health (family planning, cervical cancer, stress),hygiene, women's empowerment, domestic violence, and leadership. The fellow will also help identify potential strategic partners to advance the program goals, including NGOs and INGOs operating in Guatemala that could provide complimentary curriculum and services to our partner artisans. Please note this position is located in our office in Panajachel, Guatemala and requires a 3-month minimum commitment. This is an unpaid fellowship.

Specific responsibilities include:

- Extremely organized, able to organize notes, feedback, and survey responses into a format to incorporate into curriculum changes
- Preferred knowledge or interest in at least one of the following issue areas: market access, rural business development, financial literacy, and health & nutrition

- Graduate degree in related field a plus

INTERNSHIPS
Community Outreach Intern

Classification: Full‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
The Community Outreach Intern in Guatemala will be a part of the Mercado Global Community Outreach Team which is based between our offices in Panajachel, Guatemala and Brooklyn. The Community Outreach Intern will gain broad exposure to non-profit management and fundraising, including development operations, donor communication, grant-writing, social media, event planning, logistics, donor visits, and research. This position requires at least a 3 month commitment and will report to the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, Community Outreach Manager, and Community Outreach Director. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is full time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assist in development and implementation of donor communications
- Assist in writing grant proposals
- Help maintain donor database
- Assist with aspects of event planning and logistics
- Assist with planning for donor trips and visits to Guatemala
- Support and implementation of social media and MG Blog

Key Requirements
- Current or recent college graduate from an accredited four-year institution, graduate students also welcome
- Demonstrated interest in non-profit development and international work
- Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of database management preferred
- Understanding of social media preferred
- Ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and balance competing demands and priorities
- Experience using DonorPerfect, Mail Chimp, and Constant Contact a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission and products.

Social Media Intern

Classification: Part‐time
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Position Overview
Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing Senior Associate, the Social Media Intern will support in the development of social media content across all digital channels including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and the website. The role will require the SM intern to connect and engage with new and existing members of our digital community by projecting the brand voice for Mercado Global. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is part time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Support the Marketing Senior Associate in maintaining brand aesthetic through digital content development across social media platforms
- Update website with new graphics, products and other content
- Assist in photography and photo editing
- Researching trends and identifying creative ways to engage with MG’s digital community and increase membership base

Key Requirements
- Studying or graduated with a degree in Marketing, Graphics, or Design is required
- Excellent communication and copywriting skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission and products

Marketing and Graphics Intern

Classification: Part‐time
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Position Overview
Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing and Graphics Senior Associate, the Marketing and Graphics Intern will support in the development of sales and marketing material for key accounts such as J Crew, Calypso St Barth, and Anthropologie. The Marketing Intern will also assist in the development of fundraising and press material, as well as contribute ideas/design brand specific content to develop social media strategies across the organization. This internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience in the fashion world while also directly helping artisans in Guatemala develop income opportunities. This position involves collaborative work with our experienced production and design team, our Guatemala and U.S. based staff, and the talented women artisans we serve in Guatemala.
