AVAILABLE POSITIONS

Product Development Manager

Classification: Full‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
Mercado Global seeks a Product Development Manager to lead sourcing and sampling management from its Guatemala office. The Product Development Manager facilitates strategic workflow between design team, production team, and artisan co-operatives.

Qualified candidates have professional or native proficiency in both Spanish and English, as well as excellent skills in communication, project management and organization. This full-time role reports to Creative Director and requires a two-year minimum time commitment.

Key Responsibilities
- Work with our local production team to coordinate the sample development process.
- Maintain, manage, and evaluate the core collection R&D calendar from concept through final samples, including tracking samples and facilitating cross-team communication.
- Manage product development for private label and accounts where exclusives are offered. Facilitate execution of deliverables and timeline. Collaborate with associate designer on design needs.
- Manage product quality control, collaborating with Textile Coordinator, sample room manager, and artisan co-ops.
- Initiate and manage sourcing of new materials with sufficient lead time and costing strategy, following design requests from Creative Director and bringing additional suggestions/solutions to table.
- Facilitate sample requests between showrooms and production schedule
- In collaboration with the Executive Director and Creative Director, help manage scheduling and correspondence with Fashion Advisory Board partners.
- Support Associate Designer in intern hiring.
- Maintain material library organization – both physical and digital.
- Lead weekly meetings between Design and Product Development.
- Partner with Textile Coordinator in developing weaving and surface work techniques in artisan communities.
- Report to Creative Director
- Support costing through data management of style cutting plans and identifying opportunities to improve margin.

Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years experience in product development and/or project management, with specific experience in textiles or soft goods
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (particularly Illustrator and InDesign)
- Written and verbal professional proficiency in Spanish
- Highly organized with initiative in creating organizational systems for material archives, calendar management, etc.
- High attention to detail in product QC as well as project management
- Ability to work independently and as an active team player
- Successful in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines
- Pro-active problem solver who will propose solutions and carry out projects for positive outcomes
- Superior communication skills, including written, listening and verbal. Ability to effectively address all levels within the organization and external partners
- Weaving knowledge and experience working with artisans is a plus. Willingness to learn thoroughly on job is necessary.
- Basic sewing and patternmaking knowledge

INTERNSHIPS
Community Outreach Intern

Classification: Full‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
The Community Outreach Intern in Guatemala will be a part of the Mercado Global Community Outreach Team which is based between our offices in Panajachel, Guatemala and Brooklyn. The Community Outreach Intern will gain broad exposure to non-profit management and fundraising, including development operations, donor communication, grant-writing, social media, event planning, logistics, donor visits, and research. This position requires at least a 3 month commitment and will report to the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, Community Outreach Manager, and Community Outreach Director. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is full time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Assist in development and implementation of donor communications
- Assist in writing grant proposals
- Help maintain donor database
- Assist with aspects of event planning and logistics
- Assist with planning for donor trips and visits to Guatemala
- Support and implementation of social media and MG Blog

Key Requirements
- Current or recent college graduate from an accredited four-year institution, graduate students also welcome
- Demonstrated interest in non-profit development and international work
- Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of database management preferred
- Understanding of social media preferred
- Ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment
- Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and balance competing demands and priorities
- Experience using DonorPerfect, Mail Chimp, and Constant Contact a plus
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission and products.
- Flexibility, drive and a sense of humor
- Spanish proficiency preferred (or a willingness to learn)

Social Media Intern

Classification: Part‐time
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Position Overview
Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing Senior Associate, the Social Media Intern will support in the development of social media content across all digital channels including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and the website. The role will require the SM intern to connect and engage with new and existing members of our digital community by projecting the brand voice for Mercado Global. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is part time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Support the Marketing Senior Associate in maintaining brand aesthetic through digital content development across social media platforms
- Update website with new graphics, products and other content
- Assist in photography and photo editing
- Researching trends and identifying creative ways to engage with MG’s digital community and increase membership base

Key Requirements
- Studying or graduated with a degree in Marketing, Graphics, or Design is required
- Excellent communication and copywriting skills
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission and products

Marketing and Graphics Intern

Classification: Part‐time
Location: Brooklyn, NY

Position Overview
Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing and Graphics Senior Associate, the Marketing and Graphics Intern will support in the development of sales and marketing material for key accounts such as J Crew, Calypso St Barth, and Anthropologie. The Marketing Intern will also assist in the development of fundraising and press material, as well as contribute ideas/design brand specific content to develop social media strategies across the organization. This internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience in the fashion world while also directly helping artisans in Guatemala develop income opportunities. This position involves collaborative work with our experienced production and design team, our Guatemala and U.S. based staff, and the talented women artisans we serve in Guatemala.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Support the Marketing Coordinator in maintaining brand aesthetic through design and graphics
- Update website with new graphics, products and other content
- Assist in photography and photo editing
- Work with design team to create content for social media

Key Requirements
- Studying or graduated with a degree in Marketing, Graphics, or Design is required

Photography & Video Intern

Classification: Part‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing and Graphics Senior Associate, the Photography and Video Intern will be responsible for developing on the ground content of Mercado Global partner artisans in communities around the highlands of Guatemala to raise awareness about our mission and work. The Photography and Video intern will also assist in the development of sales and marketing material for key accounts such as J Crew, Calypso St Barth, and Anthropologie - as well as contribute ideas/design brand specific content to develop social media strategies across the organization. This internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience in the fashion world while also directly helping artisans in Guatemala develop income opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:
- Work with our Marketing & Graphics Manager to develop creative ways to use photos and videos to showcase our products, events, and impact in communities
- Participation in photoshoots for collection campaigns, community visits and lifestyle shoots
- Create visual content for social media, including Instagram, Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter, and suggest complementary copy
- General editorial duties like research, scouting locations, understanding and reporting on trends in social media, image editing
- Professional product photography and retouching
- Assess, archive and organize current photo and video library

Key Requirements
- DSLR camera knowledge
- Photography or Film experience (including portfolio or links to work to support this experience)
- Editing skills (photoshop or lightroom, mobile editing tools such as VSCO)
- Interest in or basic experience in design (layouts, type)
- Must have strong organization and deadline management skills
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
