Design Associate

Classification: Full‐time
Reports to: Creative Director
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
Reporting to the Creative Director and the Design Manager, the Design Associate is responsible for the creation of all Mercado Global core collections as well as supporting product development for key sales partners such as J. Crew, Calypso St. Barth, Comptoir des Cotonniers and Anthropologie. The Design Associate will have the opportunity to see a product through its lifespan by assisting in concept design, product design and product development. This opportunity provides the Associate with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience in both the fashion and the non‐profit sectors while also directly helping indigenous women artisans in Guatemala develop income opportunities. The position provides the opportunity to work directly with our local production team, the organization’s leadership, our talented Guatemalan and U.S. based staff, and directly with the women artisans we serve in Guatemala.

Key Responsibilities
- Supported by the Design Manager, carry through Creative Director’s vision for each collection and overall line direction from concept through completion (2 – 3 collections per year).
- Support key deliverables to build strategic, seasonal collections
- Design a number of key retail capsule collections each year
- Work with Design Manager and production team to develop new detailing concepts each season
- Create and maintain initial and final product specs
- Support the Design Manager and Production team on artisan skill development priorities

Key Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accessory Design or Fashion Design from a leading design school
- Minimum of 2 to 3 years work experience with an established accessories brand or apparel company
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission
- Proficient in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
- Prior international work experience a plus but not required
- Spanish verbal and written proficiency an asset

The position requires a minimum 1 year commitment and is based in Panajachel, Guatemala.

Institutional Partnerships Coordinator

Classification: Full‐time
Reports to: Community Outreach Director
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview
The Institutional Partnerships Coordinator is responsible for building our corporate and foundation partnerships, managing donor relationships and meeting the organization’s annual fundraising goals. Additionally, the Institutional Partnership Coordinator is an expert written-word communicator who can convey the organization’s mission and impact to our supporter network. The Institutional Partnership Coordinator directs and executes written collateral projects, from the annual report to monthly emails to supporters, to social media and website updates. This position also has the opportunity to manage the organization’s internship program across Guatemala and U.S. offices. This position works from our offices in Panajachel, Guatemala and starts July 1, 2015.

Key Responsibilities

- Identify, research, and solicit foundations and corporations whose philanthropic interests are aligned with Mercado Global’s mission
- In partnership with Community Outreach Director, develop and implement short- and long-term strategy for growing Mercado Global’s institutional fundraising program
- Develop and submit project budgets, executive summaries, and other supplemental tools and materials
- Monitor deadlines for, write, and submit progress and final funding reports
- Recruit and manage corporate sponsors for events; liaise with Event Coordinator on event sponsorship and event execution
- Update institutional funding calendar, maintain records of submissions and correspondence, and maintain database of institutional funders

- Write copy for website, annual reports, and other communication materials

- Manage organization’s internship program and organize visiting fellows
- Support additional Community Outreach initiatives as needed

Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Minimum of two years of grant writing experience preferred
- Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish
- Team player
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to move multiple projects forward simultaneously
- Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission
- Flexibility; willingness to work nights and weekends as needed
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to top-quality, self-driven work

The position requires a 2 year commitment and is based in Panajachel, Guatemala.
