Social Impact Assessment Fellow

Classification: Part-time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala, with a strong possibility to work remotely 

Position Overview

Mercado Global is a social enterprise with an innovative approach to fighting poverty and empowering women in rural Guatemala. We are seeking a data-driven individual passionate about measuring social impact to take the lead on all things data for an extensive bi-annual assessment of social impact in our partner communities.

We conduct a thorough evaluation every two years to measure the impact of our programs and income-generating activities with the artisans who we partner with in various communities in the Highlands of Guatemala.

This fellow will oversee the statistical preparation and analysis of our annual Social Impact Assessment in our partner communities. With the support of the Mercado Global team on the ground managing logistics and implementation, this Fellow with help prepare, compile and analyze data regarding our impact in our partner communities.

This position collaborates with our office in Panajachel, Guatemala, with the strong possibility of working remotely depending on the fellowship agreement. This position requires a 4-6 week commitment at a part-time capacity, across June/July 2017.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:

- Provide key statistical information pre-assessment, including but not limited to: sampling techniques and methods, guidance on evaluation groups, appropriate sample size (treatment and control groups).
- Assist in finalizing the survey questions of the Social Impact Assessment, contributing suggestions for improvements and possible use of other evaluation methods.
- Assist in developing Spanish-language training materials to be used with local women who will conduct surveys in the partner communities.
- Assist with the data collection process from beginning to end, including database set-up, data cleaning, data analysis, and contributing writing findings and conclusions in a final report and presentation

     

    Key Requirements

    - Demonstrated background in statistical analysis
    - Current or recent graduate student from an accredited institution
    - Coursework or experience in monitoring and evaluation of programs
    - Interest in international development and fair trade
    - Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel and data analysis software
    - Proficient in conversational Spanish
    - Ability to work with a team and carry projects to completion
    - Sense of initiative, problem-solving and critical thinking
    - Enthusiasm for Mercado Global's mission and model
    - Flexibility, drive and a sense of humor

    INTERNSHIPS
    Community Outreach Intern

    Classification: Full‐time
    Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

    Position Overview
    The Community Outreach Intern in Guatemala will be a part of the Mercado Global Community Outreach Team which is based between our offices in Panajachel, Guatemala and Brooklyn. The Community Outreach Intern will gain broad exposure to non-profit management and fundraising, including development operations, donor communication, grant-writing, social media, event planning, logistics, donor visits, and research. This position requires at least a 3 month commitment and will report to the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, Community Outreach Manager, and Community Outreach Director. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is full time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

    Key Responsibilities
    Specific responsibilities include:
    - Assist in development and implementation of donor communications
    - Assist in writing grant proposals
    - Help maintain donor database
    - Assist with aspects of event planning and logistics
    - Assist with planning for donor trips and visits to Guatemala
    - Support and implementation of social media and MG Blog

    Key Requirements
    - Current or recent college graduate from an accredited four-year institution, graduate students also welcome
    - Demonstrated interest in non-profit development and international work
    - Excellent organizational skills and extreme attention to detail
    - Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    - Knowledge of database management preferred
    - Understanding of social media preferred
    - Ability to exhibit tact and diplomacy in a confidential environment
    - Ability to work in a high-pressure environment and balance competing demands and priorities
    - Experience using DonorPerfect, Mail Chimp, and Constant Contact a plus
    - Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs including Word and Excel
    - Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission and products.
    - Flexibility, drive and a sense of humor
    - Spanish proficiency preferred (or a willingness to learn)

    Social Media Intern

    Classification: Part‐time or Full-time
    Location: Brooklyn, NY or Panajachel, Guatemala

    Position Overview
    Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing Senior Associate, the Social Media Intern will support in the development of social media content across all digital channels including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and the website. The role will require the SM intern to connect and engage with new and existing members of our digital community by projecting the brand voice for Mercado Global. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is part time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

    Key Responsibilities
    Specific responsibilities include:
    - Support the Marketing Senior Associate in maintaining brand aesthetic through digital content development across social media platforms
    - Update website with new graphics, products and other content
    - Assist in photography and photo editing
    - Researching trends and identifying creative ways to engage with MG’s digital community and increase membership base

    Key Requirements
    - Studying or graduated with a degree in Marketing, Graphics, or Design is required
    - Excellent communication and copywriting skills
    - Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
    - Proficient in Photoshop and Illustrator
    - Enthusiasm for Mercado Global’s mission and products

    Marketing and Graphics Intern

    Classification: Part‐time or Full-time
    Location: Brooklyn, NY or Panajachel, Guatemala

    Position Overview
    Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing and Graphics Senior Associate, the Marketing and Graphics Intern will support in the development of sales and marketing material for key accounts such as J Crew, Calypso St Barth, and Anthropologie. The Marketing Intern will also assist in the development of fundraising and press material, as well as contribute ideas/design brand specific content to develop social media strategies across the organization. This internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience in the fashion world while also directly helping artisans in Guatemala develop income opportunities. This position involves collaborative work with our experienced production and design team, our Guatemala and U.S. based staff, and the talented women artisans we serve in Guatemala.

    - Update website with new graphics, products and other content
    - Assist in photography and photo editing
    - Work with design team to create content for social media
