Marketing and Sales Associate

Position Overview:

Mercado Global seeks a talented Marketing & Sales Associate who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to expand an innovative model for fighting poverty abroad by growing the market for socially conscious fashion accessories in the U.S. 

Reporting to the Sales Director and the Creative Director, the Marketing & Sales Associate will manage cohesive on-brand marketing strategy and manage sales for boutique and direct to consumer.

The candidate is entrepreneurial, has a proven track record of aggressively growing revenue, is passionate about ethical fashion, and understands artisan-crafted product in order to support the continued growth of our U.S. sales program.

Key Responsibilities:

The Marketing and Sales Associate is responsible for growing boutique and direct to consumer sales, as well as managing sales-related marketing materials.

Key responsibilities include:

Sales Marketing Management

  • Manage annual sales marketing calendar, including ensuring on time delivery of ollection linesheets, postcards, organization-wide e-blasts, as well as ebsite and e-commerce updates
  • Lead social media strategy, including creating annual social media plan, including written content and image selection, and supervising its deployment
  • Write sales related marketing copy as needed
  • Project manage sales marketing projects including rebranding initiative and website re-launch calendar; production of collection photoshoots; and maintaining marketing image database
  • Manage marketing reporting¸ including adjusting marketing plans based on analysis of which marketing strategies and initiatives convert the best. 

Account Management

Build our sales with specialty stores on the East Coast by meeting seasonal sales benchmarks and driving sell-throughs with current and new boutiques.  Drive growth of direct to consumer sales.

Implement seasonal sales calendar including:
  • Selling in via email, calls, mailed promotions and tradeshow/ market appointments with East Coast boutiques
  • Utilizing promotions and mailings to maximize sales and support account acquisition
  • Maintaining relationship with accounts, and training sales staff, ensuring brand story is effectively told to the end consumer via social media, digital and in-store story telling.
  • Maintaining list of “best fit” acccounts.
Meeting seasonal e-commerce sales benchmarks by:
  • Managing seasonal e-marketing, website editing, and social media plan and calendar (per above).
  • Implementing seasonal ecommerce marketing strategy, including email promotions, social media outreach, and collection story telling on website
  • Track client retention and sales traction data to incorporate into sales and marketing plan in real time
Meeting seasonal trunk sale sales benchmarks by:
  • Managing trunk sales calendar, including working with fundraising team to identify trunk sale host prospects among donor and corporate partner supporter base.
  • Manage implementation and staffing of all trunk sales

Key Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree, preferably in communications, business, or marketing.
  • At least 2-3 years professional experience in sales.  Experience in women’s fashion, accessories or home décor sales strongly preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, writing and communication skills.
  • Strong entrepreneurial, organizational and analytical abilities.
  • Strong Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills.
  • Native English speaker.
  • Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish a plus.

Graphic Design and Photography Associate

Classification: Full-time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview

Mercado Global seeks a Graphic Design + Photography Associate to create design content for both print and web graphic needs. This is a full-time role with a two-year minimum time commitment.

Role Responsibilities

  • Maintain brand aesthetic through design, graphics, copy, and packaging.  
  • Design and implement visual communication following annual calendar and design briefs
  • Create social media imagery
  • Photograph in-house lifestyle product shots, handmade process, and artisan communities
  • Assist Creative Director in model and product location photoshoots
  • Provide graphic design needs for website
  • Support rebranding and website relaunch with corresponding design tools, including logo revision

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or related degree
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience in related field
  • Master in Adobe Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Strong photography skills and eye
  • Ability to design within brand aesthetic
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to work on a variety of projects at a given time and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work well with teams
  • Fluent in English; proficiency in Spanish is a plus but not necessary for role

Institutional Partnerships Manager

Classification: Full-time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview

The Institutional Partnerships Manager serves as Mercado Global’s lead foundation and corporate relationship manager. Through a variety of mechanisms such as grants, corporate sponsorships, corporate events, corporate match programs, and insight trips, the Institutional Partnerships Manager is responsible for meeting annual institutional partnerships fundraising goals. This role also manages the creation of key communication tools, including the annual report, and oversees the intern program.

Mercado Global seeks an Institutional Partnerships Manager who is passionate about growing a cutting-edge model for fighting poverty and empowering women. He/she should have self-initiative, leadership capabilities, and strong written communication skills.

This position provides fundraising and grant-writing professionals with the opportunity to work with our network of institutional partners, our talented team in Guatemala, and the indigenous women we serve. This position is based at our Guatemala headquarters in Panajachel, Guatemala and reports directly to the Development Director.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:

Grant writing and management:

  • Maintain pipeline of foundation and corporate prospects that align with Mercado Global’s mission,
  • Develop and submit grant proposals and maintain institutional fundraising application and reporting calendar,
  • Track grant activity progress internally and prepare narrative and financial reports and other engagement tools for current funders.

Institutional engagement:

  • Manage engagement activities such as trunks sales, lunch and learns, probono support, and insight trips with institutional partners,
  • Work with Private Donors Program Manager to promote and secure corporate matches from private donors,
  • Identify and secure corporate sponsors throughout the year for Mercado Global fundraising events,
  • Identify and organize Mercado Global presence at industry events and conferences, supporting applications, logistics, engagement strategy, and follow-up, and
  • Work with Sales Manager to cultivate relationships with Mercado Global partner retailers. 

Communications:

  • Manage artisan story library for grant reports and other organization communications,
  • Lead strategy and content creation of annual report, liaise with Marketing Manager on design and layout, and
  • Support creation of monthly enewsletter in partnership with Marketing Manager.

Intern Management:

  • Manage intern lifecycle, including hiring, recruitment, and onboarding coordination with MG teams, and
  • Manage Institutional Partnerships interns.

Key Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree,
  • Minimum two years grant writing experience with proven track record of success,
  • Demonstrated leadership in meeting fundraising goals,
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to quickly incorporate feedback,
  • Superior critical thinking skills and attention to detail,
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural team setting and communicate effectively in English and Spanish,
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills with an ability to push multiple projects forward simultaneously,
  • Experience managing interns and superior delegation skills
  • High-level proficiency in written and spoken Spanish,

Sales and Marketing Internship

Location: Brooklyn, New York City

Position Overview

Mercado Global is seeking a highly motivated Sales & Marketing intern who is eager to expand their breadth of knowledge within both the social enterprise and fashion industries. This is a unique opportunity for current and recent college graduates to gain skills and knowledge in supporting the day- to-day operations of a sales team, and assist in expanding our quickly growing client base. The Sales & Marketing Intern works on a variety of sales projects. He or she helps with development of promotional materials and communication for clients, maintaining our e-commerce site, outreach to specialty retailers, and development of text and collateral to tell the stories behind our products and of the women who craft them. This position can be completed from our New York or Guatemala offices or remotely. Please indicate your preferred location in your application.

This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and can be either full/part time. There are positions open in both Panajachel, Guatemala, and Brooklyn, New York. Translation Internship

Classification: Full‐time
Location: Panajachel, Guatemala

Position Overview

Reporting to the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, the Translation Intern will be based in our office in Panajachel, Guatemala. The Translation Intern will gain valuable experience in translation, as well as broad exposure to both the social enterprise and fashion industries. This position requires at least a 3-month commitment, though we are seeking an intern to stay for the semester. Start date will be in June or July 2017 (dates are flexible). Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

Key Responsibilities
Specific responsibilities include:

  • Convert concepts in Spanish to equivalent concepts in English and vice-versa, both verbally and in writing, correctly relaying the style and tone of the original language
  • Assist with the creation of presentations and events in Spanish
  • Compile information, such as technical terms used in the fashion industry, to be used in translations -Check translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions
  • Perform other related duties as required

  • Ability to speak and write clearly and effectively in both English and Spanish

Community Outreach Intern

Position Overview
The Community Outreach Intern in Guatemala will be a part of the Mercado Global Community Outreach Team which is based between our offices in Panajachel, Guatemala and Brooklyn. The Community Outreach Intern will gain broad exposure to non-profit management and fundraising, including development operations, donor communication, grant-writing, social media, event planning, logistics, donor visits, and research. This position requires at least a 3 month commitment and will report to the Institutional Partnerships Coordinator, Community Outreach Manager, and Community Outreach Director. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is full time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

  • Assist in development and implementation of donor communications 
  • Assist in writing grant proposals 
  • Help maintain donor database 
  • Assist with aspects of event planning and logistics

Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing Senior Associate, the Social Media Intern will support in the development of social media content across all digital channels including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and the website. The role will require the SM intern to connect and engage with new and existing members of our digital community by projecting the brand voice for Mercado Global. This position requires a minimum commitment of 3 months and is part time. Start dates flexible. Unpaid but academic credit is available if intern is a current student.

Position Overview
Reporting to and working predominantly with the Marketing and Graphics Senior Associate, the Marketing and Graphics Intern will support in the development of sales and marketing material for key accounts such as J Crew, Calypso St Barth, and Anthropologie. The Marketing Intern will also assist in the development of fundraising and press material, as well as contribute ideas/design brand specific content to develop social media strategies across the organization. This internship provides current and recent college graduates with the opportunity to develop key skills and experience in the fashion world while also directly helping artisans in Guatemala develop income opportunities. This position involves collaborative work with our experienced production and design team, our Guatemala and U.S. based staff, and the talented women artisans we serve in Guatemala.
